Art World at Riverview
Art is just plain important since cave paintings and before. I am always amazed that this is not understood. Minds develop making art, making choices, building confidence in what a student can produce with their mind and hands. Art can teach technology and technology can be used to make art. Thinking outside the box is what students are encouraged to do every day in an art class. And when they go in the job market that skill alone will make America a leader. Art class is fun and keeps students coming to school.
In the art class we do writing at least once a week. Students write about their art work and it is uploaded to Artsonia. Students write a hard cover story book for schools in Uganda and these books are displayed in the Contra Costa County Fair at the end of the school year.
Technology is used in the art room every day with computers, cameras, scanners, video recorders and activeboard. Every art assignment has a technology part. Students have created word collages on the computer, used search engines, drawing program, created a gif, a digital book, have an e-portfolio on Artsonia that each student has viewed and written about and they will write in this blog.
4. SERVICE LEARNING & SOCIAL ISSUES
Students will write books for schools in Uganda and draw portraits for orphans in Nepal funded by Donors Choose organization. Students will participate in Mount Diablo Peace and Justice Center poster contest and make Ex-vottos, Mexican thank you postcards around Thanksgiving.
5. ART COLLABORATES AND EXPLOREs ACADEMICS LIKE SCIENCE
Students will learn about energy by participating in the state energy contest: Energyquest. They will learn about the California Coast by participating in the Coastal Art Competition. Students learn about color and light and the world around them.
